The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC fell on the road to Austin Bold FC 2-1 on Wednesday night.
Bold FC got on the board first in the 12th minute when Juan Torres found space at the top of the penalty area and curled a left-footed shot just inside the left post, just out of Abraham Rodriguez's reach. The Switchbacks nearly responded immediately from a corner kick as Jordan Burt headed his effort on target, but Elliot Panicco made a one handed save.
The Switchbacks kept pressing to force another opportunity as Deshane Beckford dribbled by his defender to the goal line and played in a low cross that Darren Yapi flicked over Panicco's shoulder for a very clever finish for the 16-year-old's first professional goal in his first professional start.
In a tightly contested second half, the hosts scored a late winner when a pass was cut back to the center of the penalty area where Collin Fernandez hit a shot to the bottom left corner of the goal. Rodriguez got a hand to the ball but couldn't keep it out.
A Switchbacks starting lineup with an average age of 22 gained valuable experience on the road as they look to rebound at Weidner Field on Saturday.
The Switchbacks are back at Weidner Field on August 7 to face Hartford Athletic with gates opening at 6pm for a 7pm kick off. The game is presented by Centura Health on Galactic Night, with the first 4,000 fans in the gates receiving a free saber. Tickets are available HERE.
