On Saturday September 11th, the Switchbacks FC hosted the 'Guns 'N' Hoses" charity soccer match. Immediately following the Switchbacks vs. Rio Grande Valley match, the two teams took to the pitch at Weidner Field for an abbreviated game (two twenty five-minute halves with a ten-minute intermission). The match ended with a win for the CSFD, and the spirit of the night was alive and well as these teams celebrated the memories of our 9/11 first responders with a heartfelt speech.
The two teams, made up of volunteers, represented the police force and the fire department and were made up of members from the Colorado Springs Police Department, El Paso County Sheriff's Office, and Colorado Spring Fire Department. Proceeds from the tickets sold at the Switchbacks FC match went to the Fallen Officer Relief Fun, which provides immediate financial assistance to Pikes Peak region law enforcement officers who have been catastrophically injured or killed in the line of duty, and The Fire Foundation of Colorado Springs, which looks to improve public safety by providing resources to the Colorado Springs Fire Foundation which are not otherwise from the city.
