Colorado Springs, CO (November 23, 2021) – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC forward, Hadji Barry, was announced today as a finalist for the Most Valuable Player Award for the USL Championship. Switchbacks FC Head Coach Brendan Burke was also named as a finalist for the USL Championship Coach of the Year Award.
With a USL Championship record-tying 25 goals, and a 30.5% shot conversion rate, forward Hadji Barry made an indelible impact on the Switchbacks FC team this season. Barry made an appearance in all 32 games of the 2021 season, and leads the team in minutes played at 2,783.
Barry spoke about the honor of being nominated for this award and his thankfulness on his season being acknowledged in such a way: "With so many great and talented players in this league, I am honored to and thankful to be named one of the three finalists for such a prestigious award."
Head Coach Brendan Burke was also named a finalist for the USL Championship Awards, as Head Coach of the Year. His inaugural season with the Switchbacks FC team, Burke created a high energy team at our new downtown location. Ending the regular season ranked third in the Championship with 60 goals, Burke's leadership helped the team nearly double it's point total from 2019 as he led them to a postseason position.
"There are so many good coaches in this league and so many guys I look up to, to be among those recognized this year is a great honor," said Coach Burke upon hearing about the USL Championship announcement. "Our fan base created an amazing environment that I know will continue to grow. This accomplishment is shared first and foremost with our players, our excellent front office, our ownership group, who have done so much to move this city forward in such a short space of time, and our entire technical staff. The future of this club is very bright and we can’t wait for next season."
The Switchbacks FC now look to prepare for the upcoming 2022 season, with hopes to provide an even more electric experience for their fans in the coming months.
