COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Dec 12, 2023) – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced today that James Musa would be returning for the 2024 season.
“I’m really excited to be back and to build off the qualities and momentum that we showed towards the back end of last season,” said Musa. “I’m looking forward to meeting the new additions to the squad and hope they’re ready to accomplish great things for this club. This city, club, and fans deserve a trophy. I have a good feeling 2024 is going to be a memorable season for us all!”
This defender was signed on with the Switchbacks in November of 2022. Throughout the 2023 season, Musa made 17 appearances, played a total of 1,359 minutes, had 71 clearances, made 10 blocks, and had 19 interceptions. He was also named to the USL Championships Team of the Week for Week 27.
This New Zealand native started his career in 2010 playing for Wellington Phoenix’s U-12 team. From 2011-2015, Musa played with Team Wellington and helped the team play in the ASB Premiership. Throughout his time there, he also played in the FIFA U-20 World Cup, was a part of the 18-man team for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and had a brief signing with Fulham.
In 2016, Musa moved to America and played for USL teams including Saint Louis FC, Swope Park Rangers, Sporting Kansas City, and Phoenix Rising FC.
“Musa had a terrific end to the season and showed the quality we all know he possesses,” said Technical Director & Assistant Coach, James Chambers. “His attributes are that of a top-level defender and we are happy to have him within our group. Having Musa back in 2024 will help us to push on collectively to achieve our goals.”
