COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO (May 20th, 2023) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks were unable to finish Saturday night as they played Indy Eleven for the first time this season, falling to the ‘Boys in Blue’ with a final score of 1-0.
The Switchbacks faced off against Indy Eleven for only the second time in franchise history, this time without the advantage of their own house. With former Switchbacks players Cam Lindley and just transferred Macauley King both on Indy’s starting eleven, it was set to be an interesting match up for the two teams.
Despite an early chance by #17 Jairo Henriquez in the 14th minute, Indy Eleven would earn the first and only goal of the night, as #25 Bryam Rebellon notched the ball in at the 16 minute mark, before landing hard and being subbed out for the rest of the match.
The rest of the first half was dominated by the Switchbacks, as they held 61.8% of the possession throughout the first forty-five, and had a huge passing accuracy of 85.7% with more than double the successful passes of their opponents. #99 Maalique Foster and #80 Speedy Williams would both get solid chances on the ball, but both were unfortunately scooped up by goalkeeper #26 Yannik Oettl.
The second half was the same fast paced play of the first, and Switchbacks continued to hold the lead on possession over Indy Eleven. #11 Deshane Beckford shined in the second half, with three big shots on target as he attempted to equalize, and #1 goalkeeper Christian Herrera made two big impact saves late in the second half to keep Indy from doubling their lead.
Even with an impressive on field display, the Switchbacks were unable to convert their chances into finishing plays, and the score would stay 1-0 through the rest of the ninety minutes of play.
The Colorado Springs Switchbacks spend one more week on the road as they head East once again to take on Tampa Bay Rowdies in a Memorial Day weekend matchup. They’ll return home to Weidner Field on June 2nd for one of our most popular matches: Galactic Night, as they take on Oakland Roots SC. For tickets to that match, and all others, head HERE.
