Colorado Springs, CO (June 9, 2018) – The Switchbacks lost to the Swope Park Rangers 1-0 on Saturday Night at Weidner Field.
Looking to bounce back after losing to the Las Vegas Lights FC on the road last weekend, the Switchbacks had the opportunity to pass Swope Park in the standings with a win on Star Wars night. The first half started with Steward Ceus being put in a one-on-one situation as he came up with a massive save to keep the score 0-0. Shane Malcolm grew into the first half as he proved to be a handful for the Swope Park back line. First, he got past the keeper, Eric Dick, but his shot from the tight angle was just wide. Moments later, Malcolm got by his defender, but his cross got blocked by a defender. With five minutes left in the half, Hadji Barry took advantage of a miscommunication from the Switchbacks when he put Swope Park ahead 1-0.
The second half started in a similar fashion, as Steward Ceus was called upon to make another big save. The Switchbacks made all offensive substitutions, bringing on AJ Ajeakwa, Uriel Macias, and Toby Uzo, but to no avail. Steward Ceus made five saves on the night, proving to be a Man of the Match performance in the 1-0 loss.
The Switchbacks will now travel to face the Portland Timbers 2 on June 17th. The Switchbacks return home on June 23rd to face Fresno FC on fireworks night where the first 500 fans in attendance will receive a Switchbacks t-shirt courtesy of Springs Automotive Group. Tickets start at just $12 and are available here. Fans 21+ can get $1 beer the first 30 minutes when gates open at 6:00 PM.
