Colorado Springs, CO (September 3, 2016) – With a crowd of 4,112 on hand, the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC defeated LA Galaxy II 3-0 on Saturday night.
Despite the suspensions of regular starters, Miguel Gonzalez and Josh Phillips and Head Coach Steve Trittschuh, the Switchbacks were able to put on one of their best performances of the season. After dominating the early portions of the game, the Switchbacks would take an early 10th minute lead. Saeed Robinson found Mike Seth who headed it home to put the Switchbacks up 1-0. LA began to get a little more momentum as the 1st half went on, but the Switchbacks backline would hold off the LA offense. The Switchbacks would double their lead just before half as Mike Seth would get his second as a Luke Vercollone corner found Seth who hammered his second home.
“It was huge to get three points at home during this playoff push,” said Mike Seth. “Coming back from injury, I wanted to get back to full strength. I had two great balls in from Saeed and Luke to help me score my two goals.”
The Switchbacks started the second half a little slower than they did in the beginning the match. However, it wouldn’t take long for the Switchbacks to pick the momentum back up as Jordan Burt broke down the right side and found the captain Luke Vercollone who slotted it home to put the Switchbacks up 3-0. LA would once again attempt to battle back but the Switchbacks backline held on to give Devala Gorrick his 11th clean sheet of the season, building on his record setting season.
With the suspended Steve Trittschuh, it was Assistant Coach Wolde Harris who stepped in, putting him at 2-0-0 at the helm (May 21 3-1 win at Arizona while Trittschuh attended his daughter’s graduation). “The guys approached the game very professionally,” said Harris. “They executed the game plan almost to perfection.”
The Switchbacks will now travel to Vancouver to take on current 4th place Whitecaps 2. Kickoff is at 3:00 MT on Sunday, September 11th. The match can be seen live on https://www.switchbacksfc.com.
