Colorado Springs, CO (January 5, 2016) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC officially announced Guam International Shane Malcolm as the first new signing of the 2017 season pending league and USSF approval.
“I’m excited to be joining the Switchbacks this season,” said Malcolm on joining the club. “I’ve heard great things about the coaching staff and I am thrilled to work with and learn from them. I hope to contribute to the success of the team and bring an exciting season to the fans.”
Malcolm is a Jamaican-born Guamanian who plays as an attacking midfielder for the Guam National Football Team. He qualifies to play for Guam through his paternal grandmother. Since joining the Guam National Team in 2014, Malcolm has 20 caps and two goals.
Malcolm came to the United States when he was nine years old where he went on to play collegiate soccer for the High Point Panthers (Division 1). He played 76 matches for the Panthers and was named second-team All-Big South his senior year. Malcolm most recently spent time with Rovers FC (Guam) before joining the Switchbacks via free agency.
“Shane got recommended to us by the Coach of Guam that Wolde and I played with on the Colorado Rapids [Darren Sawatzky],” said Head Coach Steve Trittschuh of the new signing. “He is an exciting attacking player that we have been looking for to replace players that we lost. He has a lot of experience playing Internationally for Guam since 2014 and also playing Club Internationally. We are excited to have Shane being a big part of the Switchbacks in 2017.”
Malcolm becomes the first of the Switchback’s roster announcements to come in January.
