Colorado Springs, CO (January 10, 2017) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC officially announced today the return of Switchback original Davy Armstrong . The signing is pending league and USSF approval.
Armstrong spent much of 2016 injured, but provided a spark off the bench in the matches he played in addition to starting a handful of matches. Armstrong played 20 matches during 2016 campaign, including an appearance in the Switchbacks’ home playoff match. He played a total of 680 minutes in 2016.
“Despite being injured for much of last year, I am very excited that God has blessed me to play another year,” said Armstrong of his return.
Before joining the Switchbacks, Armstrong was named the 2008 Denver Post All-Colorado player of the year and was a three-time All Colorado team selection from 2007-09. He also led his club team–Rapids Adidas Alliance partner, the Colorado Fusion, to the 2005 Colorado state championship. Following his youth career, Armstrong signed with the Colorado Rapids senior squad as the club’s first homegrown player in 2010 and was with the team for three years before being loaned to Phoenix FC during the 2013 season.
“We are glad to have Davy back for a third season since he has been a big part of our success,” said Head Coach Steve Trittschuh of Armstrong. “We will need his experience and leadership with all the new players coming into the team. Davy is ready to have a breakout year to help continue our team being competitive in the Western Conference.”
With today’s announcement, Armstrong becomes the last of the original Switchbacks to return ahead of the 2017 season.
