Colorado Springs, CO (April 2, 2022) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC can officially be dubbed ‘best in the West’ as they finish their fourth match 2-1 against The Miami FC. The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC are now 4-0, the best season start in franchise history, and the best record in the Western Conference so far for the 2022 season.
The game started explosively for the Colorado Springs Switchbacks, as #10 Hadji Barry scored his first goal of the season only 4′ in; a pass from Ngalina lead Barry to score from 20 yards outside the box, shooting wide to notch it in just inside the left corner of the net. The Miami FC had a big change in the 19th minute, but a hit from Walker is miscalculated and just passes in front of the goal and traveled out to the other side. Another chance by Miami off a corner kick is punched out by #1 COS goalkeeper Caldwell, and the rest of the period results in nothing.
Miami started the second half aggressive, controlling possession on the field, with a few chances that were just unable to be completed. The Switchbacks could feel the heat, and after several chances of their own that came back with nothing, they made their second entry to the score board in the 68′ when Ngalina, off a corner kick from Lindley, was able to curl the ball in off the short corner into the top right corner of the net. The Miami FC returned the favor nine minutes later, when Parkes slipped it past Caldwell in the 77th minute off a central header. Parkes almost equalized the score only a few minutes later, but the shot went north of the net, and Miami wouldn’t see another goal until the final whistle blow.
The Switchbacks will be home again on April 6th as they play Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC in the second round of the Lamar Hunt U.S Open Cup, before taking to the road again for their April 9th match against Las Vegas Lights FC. The Switchbacks will return home on April 16th as they take on Memphis 901 FC. Tickets to that match, and all other matches, available HERE.
