Colorado Springs, CO (September 20, 2022) – The Switchbacks FC fought in a grinding physical match and a depleted roster, coming out goalless with a final score of one-nil in favor of SAFC.
The first forty five minutes of the match saw the two teams pitted against each other both in skill and physicality, with a lot of plays whistled down for fouls and aggression on both sides of the pitch. #11 Michee Ngalina had a big chance in the first half, but a block from San Antonio on an uncalled handball would keep COS off the scoreboard.
The first half ended with the scoreboard empty, both teams with zero big chances created, tied at five each for tackles and 54 each for duels won, and the Switchbacks just barely edging out possession at 51%.
COS came out of the gate strong in the second half, determined to take control of the game, and made ten shots (compared to one from the first half), holding 57% of the possession and a passing accuracy of over 75%. Unfortunately, an accidental handball by the visitors gave San Antonio a penalty opportunity, and an unfortunate rebound off goalkeeper Christian Herrera’s PK save would give SA the first and only point of the night in the 75th minute. About five minutes later, another uncalled handball on SA prevented #23 Elvis Amoh from his own goal while deep inside the 18 yard box, and the match would finish out without a change in score.
The Switchbacks will play their third game in seven days, as they head back home to Weidner Field Saturday September 24th to Oakland Roots for their For Club and Country Night. Tickets to that match, and all other matches, are available HERE.
