COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Dec. 9, 2022) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced today it had signed goalkeeper Joe Kuzminsky, previously of Charleston Battery. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.
“I’m very excited to be coming back to my home state and helping contribute to the success that this team has been achieving over the last few years,” Kuzminsky said on the move to COS. “I’m really looking forward to meeting everyone and working together to bring a trophy to the city.”
Kuzminksy, 28, spent six seasons with Charleston Battery after signing with them in spring of 2017. In his tenure with the Battery, he made 100 overall appearances and earned 25 clean sheets. His highest save average was in 2020 at 75.8%, and he held an average save percentage of 63.4%. During the 2022 campaign, Kuzminsky had a standout moment with the Battery as he scored the first goal of his career – a header in stoppage time against Loudon United FC that earned the team a 1-1 finish in the final moments of play. Kuzminsky also spent a season in 2020 on loan to Maccabi Haifa of the Israeli Premier League.
Before making the jump to the professional game, the Denver native played college soccer at University of Alabama at Birmingham for five years, including a red shirted year in 2012. While there he made 33 appearances, and recorded 118 saves and four shutouts. He spent a season with the USL League Two side Real Colorado Foxes in 2014, but did not make any appearances for them.
“We are happy to be adding a goalkeeper with Joe’s shot stopping ability, size, and 100 games in the league including playoff experiences to the group,” said GM and Head Coach Brendan Burke. “We expect Christian [Herrera] and Joe to compete and support each other at the position as we recognize as a group that we will have to be stronger defensively this year.”
