MIAMI, FLORIDA (March 9, 2024) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks had an unfortunate start to the 2024 season where they found themselves unable to convert their chances tonight against The Miami FC, resulting in a 2-0 finish for the Florida side.
The Miami FC earned the first goal of the night quick off the mark, as Booth notched the ball in low to the left only 15 minutes into play. Despite this early goal, COS dominated play in the first half, with 15 shots compared to only three for Miami. The team held possession for just over half the first half holding the ball for 58.1% of play. Several shots from the Switchbacks saw potential, with balls from both Foster and Williams just barely missing the mark as they encountered the woodwork instead of the net. Within the first 25 minutes of play, Lacroix had earned three chances and Santos five crosses.
The second half would be more of the same for the Switchbacks as they worked to combat against Miami’s strategy that saw a lot of close to the net defensive play in an effort to keep their 1-0 lead. Switchbacks defender James Musa had the save of the game in the 75th minute as a sliding dive across the goal line kept Miami from scoring on a breakaway. Miami would be given a chance to double their lead in the 85th minute, when Mejia tripped over the ball at the top of the 18 yard box, resulting in a foul on the Switchbacks that gave Miami a penalty kick opportunity.
With a full season ahead of them the Switchbacks need to shake off tonight’s result and move forward, looking now to the team’s home opener against Detroit City FC on March 16th. For tickets to that match, and all others, head HERE.
