Colorado Springs, CO (August 15, 2026) — The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC pulled off a dramatic stoppage time comeback to defeat Birmingham Legion FC 3-2.
Colorado Springs fell behind early after conceding a goal in the 24’. Birmingham #77 Nico Brown gained possession inside the box and fired a shot past goalkeeper #22 Colin Shutler, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead.
The Switchbacks spent the remainder of the first half looking for an equalizer and finally broke through just before halftime. #10 Adrien Perez delivered a free kick that found #23 Garven Metusala as he powered home a header for his second goal of the regular season to pull the hosts even at one heading into the break.
In the 49′, Brown was shown a red card due to a serious foul against #14 Duke Lacroix, reducing the Legion down to 10 men early in the second half.
Despite the man advantage, the Switchbacks fell behind again late in the match. Birmingham took advantage of a defensive mistake in the 86’, allowing #81 Serge Ngoma to put the Legion up 2-1.
Facing a one-goal deficit in stoppage time, Colorado Springs finally capitalized on the advantage in the 90+5’. #21 Tyreek Magee found Perez in the box as he directed the ball past Birmingham goalkeeper #12 Trevor McMullen to level the match at two.
With the full-time whistle approaching, the Switchbacks continued their relentless attack in search of a winner. In the 90+9’, Perez sent a free kick that deflected off the head of #24 Talen Maples, which fell to a perfectly positioned #27 Juan Tejada, who calmly directed the ball into the lower right corner of the net to give the Switchbacks a dramatic 3-2 victory and three points.
The Switchbacks finished the match with 13 shots on target, with 77 touches in the opposition box, and a controlling 67.5% possession rate.
