Colorado Springs, CO (July 30, 2022) – The Switchbacks FC ended the night goalless in a tough match against Phoenix Rising FC on the road, ending the night with a final score of 4-0.
After several weeks of injuries, illnesses, and back to back matches, the Switchbacks were hoping that a full week between contests would finally give the team the rest they have so sorely needed. Despite the return to a normal one game a week schedule, the team wasn’t able to get their legs under them, and would end the evening with no goals to their name.
Throughout the night the Switchbacks seemed to hold the control offensively, holding 61% of the possession overall and completing nearly double the number of passes as Phoenix Rising, but unfortunately they were unable to get those numbers to translate to the score sheet.
Jairo Henriquez made his starting debut tonight against Phoenix after scoring a goal and an assist within ten minutes of play after being subbed on during last week’s match against Charleston Battery. Goalkeeper Jeff Caldwell also saw the pitch tonight after several weeks not in goal, and despite the final score had a strong showing on the defensive side, notching a huge eight saves in tonight’s 90 minutes.
Phoenix’s four goals came in the 19th, 25th, 49th, and 94th minutes of play, with the first goal of the night an Olympico from Aodhan Quinn, who curved the ball into the far side of the net off a corner kick for a solo goal.
The Switchbacks will remain on the road for another week, taking on Orange County SC next Saturday. The team will return to Weidner Field on August 12th when they host El Paso Locomotive for their Back to School Night. Tickets to that match, and all other matches, are available HERE.
