Colorado Springs, CO (May 18, 2017) – US Soccer Announced 4th Round pairings this morning for the 104th edition of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
Prior to the Switchbacks 2nd Round Match against FC Tucson (PDL). It was determined that the winner of that match would host the winner of the Oklahoma City Energy FC vs Moreno Valley FC (UPSL) match. With the Switchbacks 2-0 victory over FC Tucson, and Energy FC's 5-1 victory over Moreno Valley FC, the two USL rivals are set for a 3rd round match in Colorado Springs. The Switchbacks will host Energy FC on May 31st at 7:00 P.M. at Weidner Field.
It was determined this morning that the winner of the 3rd Round match between the two USL sides, will travel to Dick's Sporting Goods Park to face the Colorado Rapids in the 4th Round of the 104th edition of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
The Switchbacks have advanced to the 4th round in their two previous seasons in the storied tournament facing the Rapids each time. During the inaugural 2015 season, the Switchbacks fell 1-4 to the MLS side. Last season the Switchbacks played the Rapids to a close 0-1 loss with the only goal coming in the 85th minute. Energy FC also advanced to the 4th Round of the Open Cup last year before falling to FC Dallas 5-6 on penalties.
The Switchbacks return home for USL action on May 27th for a re-match against Reno 1868 FC. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive the third piece of the poster series courtesy of the Better Business Bureau. Tickets start at just $12 and are available here.
