(Colorado Springs, CO – March 4, 2016) Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC players visited Global Village Academy, a Colorado Springs International Charter School, on Friday, March 4, 2016 to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday by reading to students.
“Engaging in the local community is an important piece of our mission,” said Switchbacks president Nick Ragain. “We are excited to be part of the Global Village Academy’s celebration of Dr. Seuss. I love reading Dr. Seuss books to my four kids and I know our Switchbacks players take pride in investing in the children of our community and giving back through reading.”
Switchbacks players Rony Argueta (Midfielder), Miguel Gonzalez (Forward), Nate Robinson (Defender) and William “Billy” Thompson were among the Switchbacks athletes participating in this special event. Ziggy, the team’s mascot, was also popular in encouraging students in the love of reading.
Global Village Academy’s Principal Alicia Welch was thrilled to have the players visit their school. “We want to instill a love for reading in our students and the Switchbacks players will provide a positive role model by their enthusiasm while reading to our classes,” said Alicia Welch, principal of Global Village Academy. “Just by their presence, these professional athletes will influence our students to believe in themselves, dream big, and strive to achieve. We are REALLY looking forward to having them at our school on Dr. Seuss Day.”
