Colorado Springs, CO (December 20, 2016) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced today the return of Aaron King (already under contract for 2017) and Jake Cawsey (option picked up) for the 2017 season.
King, a member of the Switchback’s inaugural 2015 season, completed his 10th professional season during the 2016 campaign where he appeared in 17 league matches. King is a Colorado native, and a 2000 Colorado State Champion with Smoky Hill High School (Denver). “We all know Aaron is motivated to have a good season,” said Head Coach Steve Trittschuh. “We are looking for him to help with our scoring. He is a player that we will rely on for his experience.”
Cawsey, an English midfielder, came to the United States to attend Bellevue University in Omaha, Nebraska where he was awarded back-to-back second-team all conference honors. Prior to joining the Switchbacks, Cawsey was a member of the St. Louis Lions [PDL] where he captained the Lions during the 2014-2015 campaign and was named to the 2014 All-Conference Team of the year [central]. Cawsey made 6 league appearances for the Switchbacks in addition to appearing in 3 Open Cup matches and an international match with Mainz 05 of the German top flight [Bundesliga] held at Switchbacks Stadium. “I’m delighted to be back and can’t wait to get to work in February,” said Cawsey. “I am looking forward to working with the coaching staff and developing as a player. The fans were great last year and I hope we can deliver more this season.”
“Jake did not get much time last season and we gave him some areas to work on in the off season,” said Head Coach Steve Trittschuh. “We believe he will help us in 2017.”
With this announcement, the Switchbacks have revealed 7 contracted players out of a potential roster size of 30 for the 2017 season. The team reports for practice the third week of February with an open tryout invitation occurring the week prior. Stay tuned for more Switchbacks player updates.
