The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC officially announced today the signing of 18-year-old Real Colorado Academy midfielder Damen Marcu pending league and USSF approval.
Marcu joins the Switchbacks having most recently spent time with the Colorado Rapids Academy. Prior to that, he was with Real Colorado Academy. He made back-to-back USSDA National Finals appearances and was named to the Starting 11 for the Central Conference. Prior to joining Real Colorado Academy, he played with Colorado Ice Soccer Association, beginning when he was three years old. Marcu was also named to the U-18 National Pool for the U.S. National Team.
"Damen is a player that has trained with us the past couple of years and has fit in perfectly," said Head Coach Steve Trittschuh. "He grew up playing for Real Colorado in their Academy and finished off this last season playing for the Colorado Rapids Academy. It will be good for his development to be in a professional environment daily and we are hoping he can contribute this season."
"I'd like to thank Head Coach Steve Trittschuh and his entire staff, along with the whole Switchbacks organization for giving me the chance to live my dream of becoming a professional soccer player," said Marcu on joining the Switchbacks. "I'm looking forward to learning, pushing myself, and showing the coaching staff my talent."
The Switchbacks will now return home on July 29th at 7:00 PM for 90s Night. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive special edition Switchbacks FC Pogs courtesy of Weidner Apartment Homes. Tickets start at just $12 and are available here.
