Tulsa, OK (October 14, 2017) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC capped off their 2017 campaign with a 4-2 victory over Tulsa Roughnecks FC completing a three-game series sweep over the Oklahoma side.
After being eliminated from the playoffs last week with Energy FC's win over Swope Park, the Switchbacks headed to Tulsa looking to end the season on a three-game win streak where their season began. Both sides saw early opportunities, but both fell short missing wide or seeing their attack broken down by the opposing backline. Tulsa nearly took the lead in the 21st-minute but their rebounded goal off Pouaty's save was called back for offside. The Roughnecks were able to score two quick goals in the 29th and 35th minutes to take a 2-0 lead. The Switchbacks quickly regrouped as Suggs' two crosses led to goals from Frater in the 38th and Burt just before stoppage time to level the score. After an intense few minutes of stoppage time, the two sides headed into halftime locked at 2-2.
The Switchbacks picked right back up where they left off as Jordan Burt's pressure on Tulsa led to a mistake leaving a wide-open goal to give him his brace and a 3-2 Switchbacks lead. Tulsa nearly pulled level in the 61st-minute but it missed just wide of the post. The Switchbacks earned a dangerous free kick in the 67th-minute after a handball, which Frater scored after a perfectly taken freekick over the wall to give the Switchbacks a 4-2 lead. Tulsa did their best to get back into the game, but the Switchbacks would hold on to take the 4-2 victory in their season finale.
The Switchbacks will kick their 2018 off the weekend of March 16 with the schedule to be announced at a later date. 2018 season tickets are on sale now and available here.
