Colorado Springs, CO (September 25, 2021) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC extend their unbeaten run to five games with a 3-1 win over Austin Bold FC at Weidner Field on Saturday night.
The Switchbacks got on the board early in the 8th minute as nice build-up play from the hosts got the ball out to Sebastian Anderson and he whipped in an inch-perfect cross that Deshane Beckford headed inside the left post.
After a controversial handball call on top of the penalty area, Bold FC scored an equalizer when Xavier Baez hit a powerful shot low to the bottom left corner of the goal.
Hadji Barry scored his 24th goal of the season late in the second half when Anderson played in another cross and Barry was composed to take a touch across an onrushing defender and blasted a low shot into the back of the net. This goal moves Barry within one goal of the USL Championship's single season goal scoring record with an eye on breaking it next Saturday.
The Switchbacks added a third goal eight minutes from full time as Beverly Makangila headed the ball forward with his first touch of the game and a soft back pass was intercepted by Andre Lewis who clipped his finish by the onrushing goalkeeper.
The Switchbacks' three goals tonight moved the team to 55 goals on the season, setting a new record for the club in only 26 games and the three points moved the Switchbacks back into second place in the Mountain Division.
The Switchbacks return to Weidner Field on October 2nd to take on El Paso Locomotive FC for Free Underwear Night, with the first 1,000 fans receiving a free pair of underwear, courtesy of Sheath. Tickets are available HERE.
