Colorado Springs, CO (October 13, 2021) – Hadji Barry's record tying goal wasn't enough as the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC fell 4-2 on the road to El Paso Locomotive FC on Wednesday night.
Hadji Barry tied the USL Championship record for the most goals in a single season when he recorded his 25th goal of the campaign in just the fifth minute of the game. A nice combination play by the Switchbacks set Sebastian Anderson into space on the right side of the box as he cut his pass back for Barry to take a touch and smash his shot into the back of the net.
El Paso equalized midway through the first half from a set piece played towards the right post as Ricardo Zacarias squeezed in a shot at the near post.
The Switchbacks retook the lead after Deshane Beckford forced a turnover high up the field. Andre Lewis played the ball back to Beckford who turned a defender on top of the penalty area before hitting a low shot into the right corner of the goal for the Jamaican's fifth goal of the season.
The Switchbacks nearly added a third goal before half time when Beckford cut back a ball for Andre Lewis, but his shot was cleared off the goal line as Eder Borelli deflected the ball with his hand and the follow up attempt hit the crossbar and went out for a goal kick.
El Paso equalized again from a set piece in the 61st minute as Macauley King volleyed his effort in from eight yards out. The hosts took the lead for the first time tonight four minutes from full time as substitute, Luis Solignac, who redirected a cross off the underside of the crossbar and in. El Paso added a fourth goal in the seventh minute of stoppage time as Diego Luna finished a counter attack.
On October 16th, the Switchbacks return home to take on Rio Grande Valley FC for the regular season finale at Weidner Field on Soccer Ball Night, with the first 1,000 fans receiving a free soccer ball, courtesy of Comcast Business. Tickets are available HERE.
