On Saturday December 4th, the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC participated in the COS annual Festival of Lights Parade. The parade is a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring citizens of the Pikes Peak Region are able to enjoy this wonderful local tradition each December. The theme for the 2021 parade was ‘Songs of the Season’.
The Switchbacks went all out for their parade this season, creating a self driven float inspired by the train from ‘The Polar Express’. Named after our beloved mascot Ziggy, The ‘Ziggy Express’ was complete with a conductor's cabin, a train car with windows, and covered head to toe with lights. A speaker system played the soundtrack from the movie, and over 30 Switchbacks employees and members of the Trailheads supporter’s group came out to walk in the parade.
The event was one of the largest in Colorado Springs for 2022, with around 70 floats and over 100,000 people watching from the sidelines. The weather was beautiful for the evening, and everyone had a wonderful time. The Switchbacks are already looking forward to the parade for 2022, and have lots of great ideas for an even bigger and better float.
