Colorado Springs, CO (December 11th, 2024) – Colorado Springs Switchbacks had a historical 2024 season, hitting a record number of viewers for the USL Championship final on CBS hosted at Weidner Field.
The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC achieved several historic milestones during their 10th season in 2024. After a challenging 0-5 start, the team had a remarkable nine-game unbeaten streak from April 20th to June 18th.
The Switchbacks finished the regular season in second place in the Western Conference, marking the highest finish in the club’s history. Throughout the season, including the playoffs, the club set a new record with 13 sellouts at Weidner Field.
In the 2024 playoffs, the Switchbacks hosted all four rounds, earning both the Western Conference Cup and the USL Championship Cup for the first time ever.
“You know, it’s been so hard throughout the 2024 season. You have some ups and downs and just to come up to the way we did it. It’s just special,” said Switchbacks player Christian Herrera. ” I think we all dream of winning championships. We won the trophies to bring it to the city of Colorado Springs.”
In the USL Championship final on November 23rd, the team triumphed over Rhode Island FC with a 3-0 victory. The match, broadcast on CBS at 10 a.m. MT, garnered a record-breaking 431,000 viewers, making it the most-watched game in league history. The stadium was packed to capacity, selling out on November 18th—just 48 hours after the final was announced.
“Colorado Springs, Weidner Field, and the Switchbacks showed incredibly well on CBS and I couldn’t be more proud,” said Switchbacks President Nick Ragain. “Our community was on an international stage for 3 hours and you just can’t buy that kind of publicity.”
