Colorado Springs, CO (September 8, 2026) — The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC Prinx Tires USL Cup run comes to an end in the semifinals after falling 2-1 to Hartford Athletic.
The Switchbacks fell behind after conceding a goal in the 3’ when a ball deflected off the foot of Hartford #16 Barry Coffey and across the goal line to put the hosts up 1-0.
Hartford doubled its lead in the 37’ when #15 Adrian Diaz headed #2 Sebastian Anderson’s corner kick into the back of the net, giving the Athletic a 2-0 lead.
Despite controlling 64.7% possession, completing 193 accurate passes, and recording three shots on target, the Switchbacks were unable to cut into the deficit before the halftime break.
Colorado Springs continued to press for a breakthrough in the second half. #7 Jonas Fjeldberg subbed on in the 77’ and immediately made his presence felt. In the 82′, #8 Frank Daroma delivered a ball from just past the center line into the box, where Fjeldberg fired a shot past goalkeeper #77 Antony Siaha and into the upper-left corner to cut the deficit to 2-1.
The Switchbacks conclude their Prinx Tires USL Cup campaign with a 5-0-1 record and return to USL Championship action on Friday, September 11, for a Western Conference clash with San Antonio FC at Weidner Field.
