2025 Game Recap

Colorado Springs, CO (August 16th, 2025) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks secure three points at home with a clean sheet, 2-0. 

Slow first half with possession alternating between teams. Switchbacks put up eight shots to Tulsa’s five with two on target. Defensively, the Switchbacks were able to create seven tackles winning three, ending the first half scoreless. 

#11 Quenzi Huerman broke through in the 58′, when #7 Jonas Fjeldberg with quick touch, to win a duel against Tulsa defender in the final third. Fjeldberg with a cross to the 18 yard box finding Huerman at the top, who shot a rocket past the right of the keeper allowing no time for a reaction, putting the Switchbacks up by one. 

Possession alternated for beginning of the second half, with both teams putting up chances, but unable to find the back of the net in second half regulation. Several injury stoppages led to an additional eight minutes. In the 101′ Tulsa was awarded a corner kick pulling their keeper into the Switchbacks’ box, the kick bounced around in the box to #9 Levonte Johnson who able to breakaway, with an open net #8 Cole Mrowka putting it into second gear beating everyone to Tulsa’s net swifty putting the ball past the goal line, which marks Mrowka’s first USL Championship goal. 

In tonight’s match Beaudry marks his third clean sheet in the USL Championship, #93 Kyle Vassell won five fouls, Fjeldberg picked up his third assist of the season and Huerman netted his third goal of the 2025 USL Championship regular season, while the boys put up 14 shots with four on target.

Colorado Springs, CO (August 16th, 2025) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks battled against Orange County SC at Weidner Field, falling short 0-1. 

Slow first half with possession alternating between teams. Switchbacks held an 87.5% passing accuracy while putting up four shots with one on target. Ending the first half scoreless. 

Orange County broke through in the 62′ when awarded a corner kick. Orange County’s player #27 Stephen Kelly took the corner and sent the ball high for a header to #33 Ashton Miles, who placed the ball at the foot of #4 Nico Benalcazar, which was deflected into the net. 

Switchbacks were unable to find momentum in the second; however, they created five shots with one on target and held a passing accuracy of 86.9%.  Defensively, the Switchbacks were able to create nine tackles with six successful. 

As the final whistle blew, the Switchbacks were unable to equalize, ending the match with a final score of 0-1.

Colorado Springs, CO (August 9th, 2025) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC earned three more points on the road against the Oakland Roots ending with a final score of 2-1. 

The Switchbacks struck first in the 43rd minute when #22 Marco Micaletto slipped through Oakland’s defense and fed the ball to #7 Jonas Fjeldberg. With a swift turn and quick shot, Fjeldberg lofted it over the keeper to put the Switchbacks ahead.

Just four minutes into the second half, the lead doubled. Micaletto drove the ball from midfield to the edge of the box before finding Fjeldberg, who tapped it wide right to #11 Quenzi Huerman. Huerman fired a pinpoint shot into the top of the net, leaving the Oakland goalkeeper helpless.

The Roots did respond to the goal in the 59, from Oakland player #9 Peter Wilson. Wilson was passed the ball in the box, where he sent it into the middle of the net. 

With minutes counting down, the Switchbacks held on tight making sure Oakland would not equalize, solidifying another win for the Switchbacks.

Colorado Springs, CO (August 1st, 2025) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC earn a 3-1 win at home against Lexington SC. 

The first goal of the night came in the 30′ , #11 Quenzi Huerman from the center of the pitch found #7 Jonas Fjeldberg on the left edge of the 18-yard box. Fjeldberg quickly connected with #3 Akeem O’Connor-Ward, who dropped the ball back to Huerman for a finish into the bottom right corner.

The Switchbacks doubled their lead just 10 minutes later. Off a left-sided corner, #22 Marco Micaletto delivered a ball outside the 18 to #5 Matt Mahoney, who headed it into the bottom left corner from in front of the six-yard box, leaving no chance for Lexington’s goalkeeper #31 Brooks Thompson.

Lexington put one on the board in the 77′ as Alfredo Midence shot from a distance, placing his shot into the bottom left to make it 2-1. 

Captain Mahoney responded back in the 80′ to solidify the victory with his first-ever brace. A free kick opportunity from the top of the 18 moves the ball forward of the right of the box to #18 Aidan Rocha setting up a cross to the six yard box which was deflected hitting the top woodwork to Mahoney who slid to kick the ball which was then deflected off the foot of Lexington’s keeper into the bottom left bin, sealing the 3-1 victory. 

Offensively, the team made nine total shots, six of which were on target, applying pressure in the final third. They finished the match with an 86.1% passing accuracy. Defensively, the Switchbacks delivered 15 tackles, winning 12, to secure a home victory.

Colorado Springs, CO (July 26th, 2025) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC secured a 4-0 win against Texoma FC in the final group stage match in the Jagermesiter Cup.  

The Switchbacks marked the first goal on the scoreboard in the 39′. #7 Jonas Fjeldberg quickly ran up right outside the box, where he skillfully controlled the ball around two Texoma defenders. When he found an opening, he attempted a shot but was hit away by Texoma’s goalkeeper #26 Aren Seeger. #27 Juan Tejada secured the rebound and tapped the ball right over Seeger. 

Just a few minutes into the second half, the Switchbacks score again thanks to #11 Quenzi Huerman in the 51′. From a throw-in from #20 Yosuke Hanya, the ball was grabbed by the newest Switchbacks player #37 Brennan Creek. Creek with a quick touch passed the ball to Huerman, who shot the ball from the top of the 18-yard box, hitting the crossbar down past the goal line. 

In the 79′, Hanya moved up the left side of the pitch, creating space in the midfield. Hanya was able to deliver a pass to the center, where #4 Tyler Clegg made a run up the right. From far outside of the 18-yard box, Clegg fired a low shot to the bottom left corner, past three Texoma defenders and leaving Seeger with no chance for a save. 

Quenzi Huerman solidified the victory with a brace in the 90+3′. After receiving a pass from #14 Duke Lacroix on the left side of the pitch, Huerman spun to the left of the arc, planting his right foot to unleash a powerful left-footed rocket into the top right bin. 

With the Switchbacks earning four goals and a clean sheet, it was clear that the team dominated throughout the whole 90 minutes. The boys in black and blue held a 62% possession rate, made nine shots on target, and made 51 final third entries. Defensively, the team made 22 clearances, won eight out of 12 tackles, and made five interceptions.

Colorado Springs, CO (July 19th, 2025) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC secured a 0-1 win on the road against Birmingham Legion FC. 

Possession swung repeatedly throughout the match, but a late goal from #22 Marco Micaletto made the difference, while 19-year-old goalkeeper Adam Beaudry made an impressive performance in his Switchbacks debut.

The Switchbacks made eight shots, with three on target, and maintained strong possession through an 85.1% passing accuracy across 90 minutes. The breakthrough moment came in the 83’ when #11 Quenzi Huerman from the right side of the pitch delivered a pass to Micaletto, who was just outside the penalty spot. Micaletto calmly shot the ball between two Birmingham players and into the bottom left corner of the net to give the Switchbacks the lead.

A standout from the match was the debut performance from goalkeeper #16 Adam Beaudry. The 19-year-old goalkeeper delivered a composed and confident performance. His first save as a Switchbacks came in the 52’ when Birmingham’s #2 Stephen Turnbull shot from the six-yard box, where Beaudry reacted quickly, getting a block to deflect it out of play. He followed it up with another key stop in the 77’, denying a shot from Legion’s #10 Tabort Etaka Preston from just inside the 18-yard box, then quickly recovering the rebound.

The Switchbacks held firm through the final whistle, earning three points on the road and Beaudry picking up his first clean sheet.

Colorado Springs, CO (July 4th, 2025) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks battled a tough battle against Louisville City FC at Weidner Field, ending with a final score of 0-1. 

Louisville scored the lone goal early in the match in the 9th minute. Louisville player earned a throw-in, tossing it into the middle of the box, and both defenders on each side went to head it up. The ball went to the back left side of the box up high where #15 Emanuel Prerez headed the ball towards teammate #9 Phillip Goodrum, who quickly turned around, sending the ball into the back of the net. 

In the 22nd minute, #1 Christian Herrera went down in the net and had to be subbed out for #32 Jonathan Burke, officially making his Switchbacks debut. Burke held his own ground, earning three saves and making two clearances. 

The Switchbacks throughout the whole match fought to equalize by attempting fourteen shots, creating two big chances, and holding a possession rate of 62.9%. Defensively, the Switchbacks made sure Louisville did not score any other goals by winning eight tackles and making four interceptions.

Colorado Springs, CO (June 28th, 2025) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks fall short in penalty kicks against New Mexico United in the USL Jagermeister Cup. 

New Mexico scored first the 24th minute of play when #9 Luis Fernando delivered a quick pass into the six yard box where #23 Thomas Amang sent the ball into the back of the net. Colorado Springs quickly responded just four minutes later. #21 Anthony Fontana playing the ball into the six-yard box to #27 Juan Tejada, who shot between two defenders into the top left corner to level the score. In the 34th minute New Mexico was awarded a penalty after pressure in the box. #12 Talen Maples calmly converted from the penalty spot, giving New Mexico a 2-1 lead heading into halftime.

Action continued into the second half, with momentum shifting in the 65th minute when Switchbacks’ #7Jonas Fjeldberg entered the pitch for #9 Levonte Johnson. 

Fjeldberg making an impact immediately, moving the ball up the right side, to deliver a pass into the box. Fontana buried the ball into the top right corner to level the score once again.

Both sides created chances late in the half, but neither could find the back of the net. With the score still level at the final whistle, the match headed to penalties.

Despite the draw in regulation, the Switchbacks backline delivered a strong performance, recording 13 tackles with ten successfully won. 

The penalty shootout began with high tension as both sides saw their first two attempts saved. #11 Quenzi Huerman was the first to convert for Colorado Springs, placing his shot into the top right corner. New Mexico responded to level the shootout.

#14 Duke Lacroix followed for the Switchbacks, calmly slotting his penalty into the bottom right corner. Once again, New Mexico answered with a successful attempt.

On Colorado Springs’ fourth attempt, #10 Zach Zandi aimed left, but the New Mexico goalkeeper made the save. New Mexico then converted their fourth kick, taking the advantage.

With the match on the line, #5 Matt Mahoney stepped up for the final attempt. His strike hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced just in front of the goal line, staying out, sealing the win for New Mexico.

Colorado Springs, CO (June 25th, 2025) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks lose a tough battle against San Antonio FC at Weidner Field in their second USL Jagermeister Cup Match, 0-2. 

Going into the first half, both teams fought to control possession of the ball. The boys in black and blue had seven shots, with two on target. The Switchbacks held a passing accuracy of 86.3% having a total of 14 crosses. However, both teams were unable to find the back of the net in the first half. 

A difficult second half for the Switchbacks, however, they held their passing accuracy at 82.3% and made seven crosses. Tensions were high, with a total of seven yellow cards issued between both teams. San Antonio was able to find the back of the net in the 68th minute by #32 Luis Andres Paredes with an assist by #94 Jimmy Medranda. Medranda with a quick pass across the box to Paredes, who was on the left side of the box, sending it past the goal line. Paredes scored again in the 89th minute with a shot from the left side of the box, which was assisted by #17 Juan Agudelo.

Colorado Springs, CO (June 20th, 2025) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks fought a tough, hard battle on the road against Lexington SC, ending with a final score of 2-1. 

The Switchbacks in the first half truly carried the game with six shots taken inside the box, won five corners, and held 65.2%  possession of the ball. 

In the 13′, #12 Xavier Zengue ran up the far right side of the pitch, brought the ball towards the bottom edge of the box, crossed it over to #22 Forster Ajago, who flicked it into the net. 

Going into the second half, the Switchbacks knew it would be a tough fight to answer back. In the 57′, a Lexington player attempted to shoot from inside the right side of the box, but Switchbacks player #4 Tyler Clegg went in for a slide to block it, but ended up scoring an own goal. 

Switchbacks throughout the second half won nine tackles, made two interceptions, and held a passing accuracy of 81.9%. #5 Matt Mahoney was able to earn the first Switchbacks goal of the night in the 74′. #7 Jonas Fjeldberg went to strike the ball from the top of the box, but was blocked. Mahoney found the rebound and gained control of the ball. Quick on his toes, he fakes out #80 Speedy Williams and shoots the ball past the goalkeeper.
