COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 13th, 2025) – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced today it had signed goalkeeper Jonathan Burke for the 2025 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

“I am very grateful for the opportunity to be playing with the Switchbacks this season. From the moment I arrived and met everyone I got the feeling that this was truly a special place. Everybody I have interacted with has been very welcoming and genuine. This group of guys has something unique in how they carry themselves on and off the field,” said Jonathan Burke.  “I knew right away that if God put the opportunity in front of me that I would trust Him fully and do what I can to help this team grow. I look forward to seeing the positive impacts we have on people’s lives in the community as well as bringing home another trophy to Colorado Springs.” 

Burke began his collegiate soccer career at Eastern Illinois University, playing from 2016 to 2021. Over the course of his five seasons, he made a total of 56 appearances and recorded 254 saves. Throughout his college career, Burke was recognized for his impressive skills, earning the title of Defensive Player of the Week twice in 2018. In addition, his strong performances earned him his first All-Conference second-team award in 2019.

In his graduate year, Burke transferred to Drake University to further his development on the field. During the 2022 season, he played in 15 games, earning  62 saves and five clean sheets. His stellar performances throughout the season helped him earn the 2022 MVC Goalkeeper of the Year award.

After completing his college career, Burke made the leap to professional soccer. Burke was signed to MLS Next Pro team Chattanooga FC, for the 2023 and 2024 season where he made 13 appearances.

“Burke is a fantastic pick-up who has shown his shot-stopping and distribution abilities. Since I arrived, this is the first time we feel we may have a complete goalkeeping group,” said Sporting Director Stephen Hogan. ” Calle Brown (Goalkeeper Coach), is excited for the organization to have three keepers and get to really showcase all of them. Burke is another quality keeper who can hopefully push for game time.”

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (January 29th, 2025) – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced the addition of Marco Micaletto from New Mexico United via transfer ahead of the 2025 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

“Having the chance to join a Championship winning locker room is a privilege that doesn’t always come by, so I feel incredibly lucky and grateful to be in this position,” said Marco Micaletto. “I look forward to coming in and contributing in any way I can help this club win another USL Championship.” 

Micaletto joins the Switchbacks after recently playing for New Mexico United, where he accumulated 1,948 minutes on the field. During his time with United, he scored one goal, recorded four assists, created 40 chances, and maintained a passing accuracy of 79.3%.

Micaletto began his professional career in 2019 when he signed with Tormenta FC in USL League One. Over three seasons with the club, he made 71 appearances, scored 22 goals, and contributed eight assists.

Following several standout seasons with Tormenta FC, Micaletto earned a move to MLS Next Pro, joining Columbus Crew II in 2022. He quickly rose to the role of team captain and played a key part in their success, earning MLS Next Pro Cup MVP in his first year. During his time with Columbus, Micaletto made 54 appearances, scoring 19 goals and adding four assists.

“We have added another versatile central midfielder with a ton of experience and quality. We have coached Marco before, at Reading United, and saw then and through the years what he can bring to any locker room,” said Sporting Director Stephen Hogan. “His vision on the ball and technical ability are at a very high level, and we can’t wait to get him in the building.”

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (January 8th, 2025) – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced today it had signed midfielder Garven Métusala ahead of the 2025 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Métusala joins the Club having most recently competed for Forge FC in the Canadian Premier League, where he made 112 appearances, logged 8,101 minutes of playing time and helped secure two league championships in 2022 and 2023. Métusala was selected by Forge with the eighth overall pick of the 2021 CPL-U SPORTS draft and went on to sign a professional contract with the club in June 2021

“It’s truly an honor for me to sign for the reigning champions of the USL. After talking with Stephen and James, it was clear to me that this was the right place,” said Métusala. “The project really spoke to me, and they made me feel like this would be the perfect next step for my career.”

“Colorado is a club with good values, and I can’t wait to meet the guys and to get to play in front of the fans!”

Métusala  gained semi-professional experience with St. Hubert and SC Fabrose, winning the Première Ligue de Soccer du Québec (PLSQ) Cup in 2019. Then in the 2020 season. Métusala moved to another PLSQ club, AS Blainville, and secured a league title. 

Internationally, Métusala attended his first call up with Haiti’s men’s national team in March 2022. He made his international debut for Haiti at 22 years old against Guatemala on March 27, 2022. Most recently, he was called up to represent Haiti in the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup, playing 90 minutes in all three of his country’s matches. He was also selected to play in two Concacaf Nations League games in September 2023.

“We are delighted to welcome Garven to the club. He can become a consistent CB (Centre-back) in our league with great composure on the ball and intelligence-reading games,” said Sporting Director Stephen Hogan. “He’ll be a perfect locker room addition, too. His character will help the locker room, and we will help him develop on and off the field.”

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (January 6th, 2025) – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced today it had signed midfielder Anthony Fontana ahead of the 2025 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Fontana joins the Club having most recently competed for PEC Zwolle in the Eredivisie, where he made 10 appearances and logged 350 minutes of playing time, refining his skills in a new footballing culture. Prior to competing in the top-flight in the Netherlands, Fontana had competed for Ascoli Calcio in Italy’s Serie B.

“Football is an up and down sport, at every low there was always one person that always had my back, that was [Switchbacks Head Coach] James Chambers. I can’t wait to fight for him and the club,” said Fontana. “What James and [Switchbacks Sporting Director] Stephen [Hogan] have built and accomplished here is amazing. I want to be a part of it and help the project progress even more.

“I’m extremely excited about joining and helping the team and try to repeat what was accomplished last season.”

Fontana’s career began in the Philadelphia Union Academy, where he honed his skills and developed a strong foundation in the game. His potential was clear, and soon, he made the leap to the Union’s reserve team, Bethlehem Steel FC, where he played alongside other emerging young talents including current United States internationals Brenden Aaronson and Mark McKenzie and recorded 49 appearances.

In 2018, Fontana earned a promotion to the Philadelphia Union’s First Team, signing a professional contract as a Homegrown Player. Over the next few years, Fontana made 44 appearances for the Union, scoring eight goals and contributing two assists, before making the move to Italy to begin his European journey.

“We needed to adjust, improve, and try to build on our midfield success from last year. Anthony ticks all those boxes and more,” said Sporting Director Stephen Hogan. “He is hungry to get back on the field and show everyone who he is.”

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (January 2nd, 2025) – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced today that they had signed forward Levonte Johnson, previously from Vancouver Whitecaps FC. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

“I’m thrilled to join such an incredible team and be a part of a club. The fans and the energy they bring is amazing,” said Levonte Johnson. “It’s an honor to contribute to the winning culture here, and I’m excited to work alongside my new teammates to build on that success!” 

In 2023, Johnson was selected 29th overall by Whitecaps FC in the MLS SuperDraft and subsequently signed with their MLS NEXT Pro affiliate, Whitecaps FC 2. In his first 10 appearances for WFC2, he displayed impressive skills netting six goals and one assist. Johnson also earned four call-ups to the first team during the season. He made his debut in the Canadian Championship quarterfinal against York United FC, scoring in the 88th minute, and became the second MLS NEXT Pro product to score on his first-team debut for the club.

Johnson was later called up for the Canadian Championship Final, where he started and played 73 minutes, contributing to the team’s victory in securing the Voyageurs Cup. Over the 2023 season, he made four starts and 11 appearances for the first team, while also tallying seven goals and one assist in 13 starts and 15 appearances for WFC2.

In the 2024 season, Johnson officially became a first-team player, making seven starts in 27 appearances during the MLS regular and postseason. Over 702 minutes on the pitch, he recorded three key passes and completed 116 accurate passes.

Johnson began his collegiate career at Salt Lake Community College, where he played for two seasons, scoring 21 goals and providing 14 assists. He then transferred to Seattle University for his junior year, registering nine goals and eight assists in 20 starts and 22 appearances. In his final year, Johnson moved to Syracuse University, starting 25 games and scoring 11 goals with six assists. He played a key role in helping Syracuse win the NCAA Division I National Championship. Johnson was a finalist for the prestigious MAC Hermann Trophy and earned numerous honors, including being named to the United Soccer Coaches First Team All-America, All-ACC First Team, and All-South Region First Team.

We have scouted Levonte for nearly two years and tried to get him on loan,” said Sporting Director Stephen Hogan. “He is the perfect profile for how we play, and I am excited for us. More importantly, I am excited about his announcement to our league..”

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (January 1st, 2025) – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced today that they had signed defender Akeem Ward, previously from Memphis 901 FC. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

“Buzzing to get down to Colorado Springs and get to work. Last year what the club achieved was brilliant winning a USL Championship,” said Akeem Ward. “I want to contribute to a repeat of that this year. For God, for family, and for the Springs!” 

Ward was selected 14th overall by D.C. United in the 2019 MLS Draft after playing at Creighton University. From 2019 to 2022, he spent time at Loudoun United, Birmingham Legion FC, North Carolina FC, Oakland Roots SC & Rio Grande Valley FC.

In 2023, Ward signed a multi-year contract with Memphis 901 FC and was appointed team captain for the 2024 season. Since joining the club, he has made 71 appearances, scoring three goals and providing four assists, while maintaining an impressive passing accuracy of 81.9%. As a standout defender, Ward has recorded 132 clearances, 79 interceptions, and won 297 duels.

“I believe we have another potential leader in the building. We are very excited to see what Akeem can do with our roster, on the field, and in the locker room,” said Sporting Director Stephen Hogan. “His mentality was the most important addition to his signing. He will compete every day, and that will hopefully show in his performances on the field.”

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (December 27th, 2024) – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced today that they had signed defender Isaiah Foster, previously from FC Cincinnati. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

“I’m excited to be back, I never had a bad experience when I was here, from the coaching staff to the fans,” said Isaiah Foster. “everything was great and can’t wait to be apart of this organization again.” 

Foster was a reliable presence for the Switchbacks during his first professional season in 2022, earning 16 starts across 25 appearances and logging over 1,500 minutes. He recorded 32 clearances, won 30 of 39 tackles, and maintained a passing accuracy of 77.9%.

In the 2023 and 2024 seasons, Foster continued as a key starter for MLS NEXT Pro’s FC Cincinnati II, making 39 appearances. He made his MLS debut on June 29, 2024, against FC Dallas and scored his first goal for the team in the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup against Cavalier FC.

“I think Isaiah’s return to the club is a testament to the staff’s development mindset. He is a talented player who needs a platform and a full season of games,” said Sporting Director Stephen Hogan. ” His personality fits the locker room, and the prospect of him competing in our league is something we all want to see.”

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (December 25th, 2024) – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced today that the club has exercised Quenzi Huerman’s contract option for the 2025 season.

“I’m very excited to come back and play in front of our fans. It’ll be a big year for us as we’ll push to run it back and win it all again,” said Quenzi Huerman. “I’m here to create a dynasty here in Colorado Springs. Individually, I will strive to show the best version of myself and put on a show for our fans.” 

Huerman is set to enter his second season with the Switchbacks. During the 2024 season, he made 26 appearances, scored one goal, created 22 chances, recorded 10 clearances, and won 97 duels.

Huerman began his collegiate career at Palm Beach Atlantic University, where he played from 2019 to 2021, before transferring to Seton Hall University in 2022. Over his college career, he appeared in 49 games, scoring 13 goals and contributing 16 assists. His standout performance earned him numerous accolades, including being named to the 2021 All-SSC First Team and being honored as the SSC Player of the Year while at Palm Beach Atlantic.

In 2022, Huerman made his debut in USL League Two with Asheville City SC, where he played for two seasons. During that time, he made 23 appearances, netted nine goals, and provided seven assists. In recognition of his exceptional performance, he was named the 2023 USL League Two South Central Divisional Player of the Year.

In 2023, Huerman joined the University of North Carolina, logging 1,467 minutes on the pitch, scoring 10 goals, and adding seven assists. His impressive play earned him Third-Team All-American honors, making him the 50th All-American in UNC history.

“We are excited to have Quenzi back with us for the 2025 season,” said Sporting Director Stephen Hogan. “We have seen his technical ability and eye for goals over the course of this past season, but he needs to establish himself in the lineup. Once we see him dictate games, the league will see a talented footballer.”

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (December 23rd, 2024) – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced today that Koa Santos will be returning for the 2025 season.

“Excited to be back for next season. I look forward to building on last year’s success and ultimately bringing another trophy back to the Springs,” said Koa Santos. “Individually I am fueled to be the best version of myself for the team, club, and fans in 2025.” 

Santos will be coming into his second season with the Switchbacks. Throughout the 2024 season, Santos played 1,980 minutes, had two assists, made 13 interceptions, 44 clearances, and won 97 duels. 

The Hawaii native played for San Diego State University, where he netted two goals and had three assists in his 58 appearances. Santos made history by being the first men’s soccer player from Hawaii to play in the PAC-12.

This defender made his professional debut playing for the MLS team, Charlotte FC, on June 25th, 2022 against Club de Foot Montreal. A notable moment in Santos’s MLS career was when he recorded an assist in the Open Cup Match against the Richmond Kickers. 

Santos was then sent on a loan to USL League One with Charlotte Independence where he made 19 appearances, scored one goal, had two assists, 23 interceptions, and 24 clearances. In 2023 Santos joined Loudoun United FC and throughout the season, he earned two assists, 30 key passes, 31 clearances, 37 tackles, and 27 interceptions.  

“We look forward to seeing Koa come back with the intensity and ambition to develop into a potential regular starter,” said Sporting Director Stephen Hogan. “His attacking traits for a full-back are very good; we hope to see that continue and more for his all-around game.”
