Switchbacks FC Visited Pita Pit!

On September 26th the Switchbacks own Mascot Ziggy got hungry and decided to stop by One of our loyal partners, Pita Pit! Ziggy had a blast meeting with The Pita Pit staff and customers at their downtown location. Ziggy posed for pictures and the staff was nice enough to allow Ziggy to get behind the grill to make his own pita. The Switchbacks FC will jump at every opportunity to come out and show our support for one of our loyal partners.

Switchbacks FC Attend Colorado Technical University Golf Tournament

On September 14th the Switchback FC and Ziggy attended Colorado Technical University’s annual Scholarship Golf tournament at the Broadmoor golf course. Golf was played, and tournament winners crowned. But, most importantly, CTU raised money to help benefit the Scholarship Fund. "Each year, we look to provide opportunities for CTU students in need. The purpose of this golf tournament is to do just that – help our students focus more on their studies and less on the financial side of education." Said CTU President Andrew H. Hurst. The Switchbacks FC know how important education is and loved that we can come out in support of Colorado Technical Universities Scholarship Fund.

Moise Pouaty Named To USL Team Of The Week Bench

The United Soccer League officially announced today that Moise Pouaty was named to the bench of the Week 29 USL Team of the Week.

Pouaty played a pivotal role in the Switchbacks' win over the Real Monarchs Saturday night at Zions Bank Stadium. Pouaty recorded six saves to earn his sixth clean sheet of the season to secure the three points for the Switchbacks on the road.

The Switchbacks FC are now on the road for two more consecutive games to close out the 2018 USL regular season. The Switchbacks will visit California to take on Fresno FC at Chukchansi Park on Friday, October 5th at 8:00 PM MT for the penultimate game of the season.

Switchbacks FC Defeat Real Monarchs 2-0 On The Road

The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC defeated the Real Monarchs at Zions Bank Stadium on Saturday night to complete the sweep of the Monarchs for the 2018 season.

Coming off of the loss to the Phoenix Rising FC last weekend that officially eliminated the Switchbacks from playoff contention, the Switchbacks traveled to Herriman, Utah to take on the Real Monarchs. The first half was a battle of the goalkeepers. Switchbacks goalkeeper, Moise Pouaty, made four saves in the first half, with three of them being in spectacular fashion. Monarchs goalkeeper, Jake Leeker, made a massive save of his own to deny Saeed Robinson just before halftime.

After the break, Pouaty picked up where he left off, being forced to make a one-on-one save to deny Chandler Hoffman within 60 seconds of the restart. The Monarchs were the aggressors as they hit the crossbar twice. Against the run of form, AJ Ajeakwa dribbled over 20 yards, beat his defender, and slotted the ball inside the far post to give the Switchbacks the lead on the road in the 63rd minute. One minute into stoppage time, the Switchbacks added an insurance goal when Shane Malcolm cut the ball back for Marty Maybin to score his 4th goal of the season to give the Switchbacks their third road win on the season.

Ziggy Helps Open Pickle Ball Courts At Banning Lewis Ranch With Oakwood Homes

On September 22nd Ziggy and the Switchbacks FC joined Oakwood homes and 96.9 FM for Banning Lewis Ranch's pickle ball court ribbon-cutting ceremony. The event was packed with excitement which included food, fun and of course The Switchbacks own Ziggy. Ziggy took the opportunity to show off his skills at pickle ball by taking on 96.9’s own Tammy Oakland. The PPPA (Pikes Peak Pickle ball association) even showed up to give free offering guided play and lessons to the kids. The pickle ball courts are second to none featuring 8 brand new courts. The switchbacks FC are dedicated to healthy living and we always love the opportunity to come out and show support for the community.

Switchbacks FC Host Presentation of Purple Heart With CTU

On September 15th the Switchbacks FC and Colorado Technical University honored purple heart recipient Dr. David Andrews at halftime! The purple heart award is the oldest Military Award. It was originally introduced by General George Washington as the Badge of Military Merit in 1782. The Purple Heart is one of the most respected medals one can receive. It is a decoration presented in the name of the President of the United States to recognize military members that have been killed or wounded in battle. Colorado Technical University and the Switchbacks FC are huge supporters of the military and take every opportunity to honor those who sacrificed for this great nation.

Ziggy Visits Penrose-St. Francis NICU Reunion Picnic

On September 15th, Ziggy and the Switchbacks FC came out to Penrose St. Francis for their NICU Reunion Picnic where over 100 NICU graduates and their families came out to celebrate with NICU Doctors and Nurses. Ziggy had a blast spreading smiles and hanging out with the kids and adults alike. The picnic featured food, bounce house, magic show, face painting and much more! One dad of a NICU baby that was born in 2016 took the opportunity to purpose to his Girlfriend and of course she said yes! We here at the Switchbacks FC will take every opportunity we have to come out and show support for Penrose St. Francis and the Kids!

USL Championship, USL League One and USL League Two will debut in 2019 season

TAMPA, Fla. – On a historic day for the evolution of soccer in North America, the United Soccer League has unveiled a new structure and brand identity for each of its top three leagues ahead of the 2019 season.

“Today’s announcement comes at the dawn of an exciting new era for our sport,” said USL CEO Alec Papadakis. “The USL has spent the past eight years transforming our league to meet the evolving needs of our team owners, players, coaches, fans and partners. We have established our place in the U.S. soccer landscape while blazing the trail for professional soccer’s future by introducing a new third division, completing the nation’s professional soccer structure.

“We are bringing three leagues under one central brand that will uniquely represent the USL’s vision for the future and give rise to local passion in new cities currently without professional soccer. The new brand and logos are inspiring and convey a new direction. They are innovative and modern and tell a story but more importantly, refuse to let others define us. The USL will now be modelled after a tried and respected international structure. One central brand, three leagues: USL Championship– the pinnacle of competition; USL League One– the foundation of professional soccer; and, USL League Two– the Path to Pro.

“We are repositioning the competition under MLS with a new strategy, new names and logos,” concluded Papadakis. “As we look to the future, the USL is ready to put its fingerprints on U.S. Soccer’s drive toward becoming the best in the world, and its pursuit of winning a FIFA Men’s World Cup.”

The new structure and branding will go into effect in advance of the 2019 season, at which point the USL will also unveil a modernized league website in order to showcase new, engaging digital content and help to better tell the organization’s story as it continues to push the limits of what is possible for professional soccer in North America.

UNITED SOCCER LEAGUE

The USL’s new corporate logo symbolizes the growth of professional soccer in North America, incorporating 13 stripes to represent the U.S. flag. The blue letters pay homage to the league’s past while the new, modern logo and the white sphere represents a soccer ball in motion – propelling our sport forward into the future.

USL CHAMPIONSHIP

The pinnacle of competition – the USL Championship features a new gold design and represents the ultimate goal for players, coaches, fans and communities, all of whom aspire for excellence both on and off the field.

USL LEAGUE TWO

The #Path2Pro – the PDL will become USL League Two – the elite pre-professional tier in North American soccer and the established developmental platform for U-23 and collegiate players, fans and communities.

Maintaining its heritage with a bold, red logo, League Two will continue to forge the game’s future, delivering the first taste of premier competition in an authentic national soccer environment with a hyper-local focus. It is the gateway to stardom for those who prove they belong and have the desire to advance into the professional ranks, providing more than 70 percent of players selected in the MLS SuperDraft over the past eight years.
