The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC officially announced they have signed Mason Toye on loan from Minnesota United of Major League Soccer (MLS).
Toye, 19, joins the Switchbacks after registering an assist in 259 minutes across 14 games for Minnesota United this season. Toye was selected seventh overall by Minnesota in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft from Indiana University where he led Indiana to the 2017 NCAA National Championship final, where they fell 1-0 to Standford in double overtime. The Generation Adidas forward earned numerous accolades during his freshman year at Indiana including leading the Big Ten with 10 goals throughout the season, Big Ten Freshman of the Year, first-team All-Big Ten, Big Ten All-Freshman Team, and first-team United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region. Toye will wear number 13 for the Switchbacks.
"He is a player that can score goals a lot of different ways," said Switchbacks Head Coach, Steve Trittschuh. "We look forward to getting him on the field and push for a playoff spot."
Toye will be available for Saturday's match against the Tulsa Roughnecks FC. MLS has entered into a Loan Agreement for Toye. This agreement contains a right of recall for MLS, which enables Toye to play for the Switchbacks and Minnesota throughout the duration of the loan period, subject to roster rules and compliance.
The Switchbacks are back on the road next for the next two games as they face the Tulsa Roughnecks on August 11th and the Phoenix Rising on August 25th. The Switchbacks are back at Weidner Field on August 29th to face Real Monarchs SLC in a rivalry match. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a free Switchbacks Poster and mini soccer balls on 1980's Night courtesy of Penrose-St. Francis Health Services. Tickets start at just $12 and are available here. Fans 21+ can get $1 beer the first 30 minutes when gates open at 6:00 PM.
