Colorado Springs, CO (August 16, 2016) – Switchbacks FC Midfielder, 1st Lieutenant Kevin Durr, will be departing the team at the end of the month. Durr, who was a member of the Switchbacks’ 2015 inaugural roster is being re-stationed to Ramstein Airforce Base in Ramstein-Miesenbach, Germany.
Durr was the final player signed before the Switchbacks’ inaugural 2015 season began. Prior to his time with the Switchbacks, he was part of the Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich and FC Garmisch-Partenkirchen youth system while he was growing up in Germany. Durr then came to the United States and attended the United States Air Force Academy. Durr made a total of 78 appearances for the Falcons and tallied 18 goals and 18 assists. Durr was a first team All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation for three straight seasons. He was also the only freshman that played in all 17 his freshman year, and was named Air Force Rookie of the Year in 2009.
Durr was the 16th overall pick selected in the 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft by the Seattle Sounders. Unfortunately he was not able to get a contract due to his commitment to our country through his service in the United States Air Force. However, Durr was able to find a home in Colorado Springs as the Switchbacks offered him a contract and allowed him to fulfil his Air Force commitment. Durr has made a total of 13 appearances in the USL for the Switchbacks since he joined the team.
In regards to his time with the Switchbacks, Kevin said,“Obviously it’s meant a great deal to me. I got to play with some of the best players I’ve ever played with these last two years and I’ve learned a lot from them and gained a lot of experience. So I look back and I’m really appreciative of the opportunity I had. I’m heading to Germany, so I’m being re-stationed at Ramstein Airforce Base and taking on a new job there that will be at least 2 years.”
Head Coach Steve Trittschuh had nothing but positive remarks when talking about Durr. “Kevin was one of the first that I identified, back when we were putting the team together. I saw him at a couple combines, he came to our combine, but I had known him previously from him playing at Airforce then getting drafted by Seattle.” Coach continued,” He’s always been in the plans. It’s one of those things where, we worked a lot around his plans and schedule because of his Airforce duties.”
“He’s been a great teammate on this team and all he does is come here and work. It’s been a great commitment from him and he’s been a great part of this team. He’s going to be sorely missed. The guys understand that this is his career, his life. He gets to move back home to Germany where he grew up so it’s good for him. He’s going to be missed not only on the field but off the field because I know he’s had some great relationships with the guys here.”
Durr is an active duty 1st Lieutenant in the United States Air Force and is a Class of 2013 United States Air Force Academy Graduate.
