Colorado Springs, CO (July 16, 2016) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks earned another clean sheet victory after a stellar performance by goalkeeper Devala Gorrick and a late goal by JJ Greer.
The Switchbacks came out early in the match in full force. They controlled the early portions of the match, holding the majority of possession and out shooting Sacramento 12-4 in the first half. Despite the dominant performance by the Switchbacks in the first half, they weren’t quite able to capitalize and took a 0-0 tie into halftime.
The early minutes of the second half appeared to be a different story than the first as it was Sacramento who would control the early portions of the second half. Their efforts would prove to be futile though, as Switchbacks goalkeeper, Devala Gorrick, would come up with a few big saves to keep the shutout alive.
Finally, in the 84th minute, JJ Greer would find his first goal of the season on a Josh Suggs corner to put the Switchbacks up 1-0. The lead would stand as Devala Gorrick and his back line would stand firm despite a last ditched effort from Sacramento. The Switchbacks would take a 1-0 victory making them 2-0-1 all time against Sacramento.
“It was a great performance,” said goalkeeper Devala Gorrick. “We really outworked them and were patient with our chances and came out on top.”
“I think we played well and definitely deserved to win tonight,” said Head Coach Steve Trittschuh. “I’m very happy with the win tonight. We have to build on this win and do whatever it takes to win games.”
The Switchback’s next match will be against Swope Park Rangers (Kansas City) on Wednesday, July 20th. Tickets are available at https://www.switchbacksfc.com or by calling 719-368-8480 x1.
