Salt Lake City, UT (May 20, 2017) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC fell 2-5 on the road to Rocky Mountain Rivals Real Monarchs.
Playing one of the hottest teams in the league, the Switchbacks were looking to give the Real Monarchs their second loss of the season after having beat them earlier in the season. A tough start by the Switchbacks saw them defending for the majority of the first half. It would be the Switchbacks who would take the lead in the 25th minute as Josh Suggs cleaned up a saved Aaron King penalty. The Monarchs would score just 5 minutes later to equalize. The two sides would head into halftime tied at 1-1.
The Monarchs would quickly take control in the second half as they put away three goals in the span of six minutes as Velasquez put away two and Hoffman grabbed his second to take a 4-1 lead in the 57th minute. The Switchbacks spent the majority of the second half defending, and saw very little of the attacking third. The Real Monarchs would go down a man as Gallagher earned his second yellow card of the match and was sent off. Despite the extra man, the Switchbacks still struggled to find any offensive. The Monarch's would get their 5th goal in the 83rd minute from Haber. The Switchbacks would earn one back in the 87th minute from Frater but it was too late and the Switchbacks fell 2-5 on the road to their Rocky Mountain rivals.
The Switchbacks will look to bounce back as they return home on Saturday, May 27th for a re-match against Reno 1868 FC. This will be the third night of the poster series courtesy of the Better Business Bureau. Tickets start at just $12 and are available here.
