The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC fell 1-2 on the road to Swope Park Rangers in a mid-week contest in Kansas City.
Coming off a ten-day break from their last match (a 2-1 victory in LA), the Switchbacks were looking to continue their recent run of form against Swope Park Rangers to keep pace atop the Western Conference. The Switchbacks showed promise early in the first half with a handful of chances, but they came up empty. Finally, recent USL player of the week Kevaughn Frater came up with a huge individual effort and found Eddy Prugh who put away his first of the season to give the Switchbacks a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute. Swope Park would get a handful of chances in the second half but the Switchbacks would come up with six blocks along with three saves from Moise Pouaty to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
The second half proved to be a much different story. Swope Park Rangers began to take control of the second half as the second half went on. Despite strong defensive efforts by the Switchbacks backline and Moise Pouaty, the Swope Park Rangers would find the net twice. Swope Park would find their equalizer in the 67th minute on a corner as Doyle beat his man in the box to head one past Pouaty. Swope Park would take the lead just 8 minutes later as Duke put away a missed volley in the box to give them a 2-1 lead. Swope Park would hold to take a 2-1 victory and would move into third place with 20 points and three games in hand over now fifth place Switchbacks FC with 20 points as well.
"We lost focus on a couple moments," said Head Coach Steve Trittschuh. "We had some good play in the beginning and need to finish more of those chances first half. Overall we need to do better and turn it around and bounce back Saturday against San Antonio."
The Switchbacks return to Weidner Field on June 24th against San Antonio FC. Fans attendance will be treated to a post-match fireworks show! Kickoff is at 7:00 PM, tickets start at just $12 and are available here.
