Colorado Springs, CO (August 18, 2017) – The Switchbacks fell 1-2 to LA Galaxy II at home in front of a record crowd of 4,437 at Weidner Field.
Looking to bounce back after a 0-2 to Real Monarchs on Saturday, the Switchbacks hosted LA Galaxy II for Superhero Night. The Switchbacks looked promising early on in the match, with the majority of their possession occurring in the attacking third. They had multiple opportunities but Eric Lopez was able to make a handful of big saves to keep the Switchbacks of the score sheet. LA picked up steam as the first half continued with momentum swinging toward the visitors. However, Moise Pouaty and the backline were able to hold firm and the two sides would head into the break scoreless.
It wouldn't take long for LA to gain control of the second half as Jack McBean worked the right side to find Ariel Lassiter in the 52nd minute as Lassiter slotted it past Pouaty to his left. The teams would continue to battle with both sides taking shots on goal but neither able to find the net. Head Coach Steve Trittschuh made a pair of substitutions in the 67th and 73rd minute as Jack Jones and Aaron King came on for Masta Kacher and Eddy Prugh. Only four minutes after coming on, Aaron King found the equalizer for the Switchbacks in the 77th-minute as Kevaughn Frater broke down the left side to find Aaron King. The game seemed destined for a draw however, a miscue by Sean McFarlane ended up with LA taking the lead on an own goal. Despite five minutes of stoppage time, the Switchbacks were unable to find an equalizer and fell 1-2 to LA Galaxy II at home.
"I felt like we just ran out of time," said Aaron King. "We started off great in the first 15-20 minutes and probably should have scored. I felt like we shouldn't have lost that one, and we just needed five more minutes."
Head Coach Steve Trittschuh had no comment after the loss.
The Switchbacks will have bye-week next weekend before returning to action September 2nd against Sacramento Republic at Papa Murphy's Park. The Switchbacks will return home Saturday, September 9th against Phoenix Rising FC with the first 500 fans in attendance receiving the fifth and final piece to the poster series puzzle courtesy of Accelerated Wealth. Tickets start at just $12 and are available here.
