Colorado Springs, CO (March 11, 2018) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC defeated the Air Force Academy Men's Soccer Team 3-0 in their pre-season finale at Weidner Field.
After a slow start to the match, the Switchbacks began to pick up their intensity. Air Force had their fair share of opportunities, but Steward Ceus and the backline stood firm to force tough shot attempts and easy save opportunities. The Switchbacks finally got on the scoreboard in the 43rd minute as Jordan Schweitzer found the back of the net for the second straight game. The Switchbacks would take the 1-0 lead into the break.
It took less than eight minutes into the second half for the Switchbacks to double the lead as Jordan Burt converted from the penalty spot to give the Switchbacks a 2-0 lead. Air Force would have a couple of dangerous opportunities as the second half progressed but came up empty every time. The Switchbacks made a number of substitutions in the 73rd minute including Toby Uzo, who scored just two minutes later after coming on to put the Switchbacks up 3-0. Despite late efforts from Air Force, Steward Ceus and the Switchbacks would walk away with a clean sheet.
"It was a good exercise before we open up the season," said Head Coach Steve Trittschuh. "We had some good things and some bad things from this game. Hopefully we can take some momentum out of our decent preseason, I still wish we would've had some more USL games, but hopefully, we can start the season right against LA at home."
The Switchbacks will kick their 2018 USL campaign on March 17 as they host LA Galaxy II at 6:00 PM at Weidner Field for St. Paddy's day celebration with fireworks and $1 beer the first 30 minutes after gates open at 5:00 PM. Tickets start at just $12 and are available here.
