On Saturday, June 23rd, Shane Malcolm scored a free kick from about 25 yards out in the 86th minute to win the game 1-0 against Fresno FC in front of a full house of 5,000 fans at Weidner Field for the largest crowd in Switchbacks history. Malcolm's goal was nominated for the USL Goal of the Week voting for week 15. When the fan voting ended, Malcolm ended with 38 percent of the vote, edging out Jerry Van Ewijk's free kick from Reno 1868 FC that claimed 34 percent of the vote. The Switchbacks stay home on June 30th to face San Antonio FC on World Cup Night where the first 500 fans in attendance will receive a vuvuzela courtesy of Weidner Apartment Homes. Tickets start at just $12 and are available here. Fans 21+ can get $1 beer the first 30 minutes when gates open at 5:00 PM.
