Las Vegas, Nevada (June 2, 2018) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC lost 4-1 on the road to the Las Vegas Lights FC on Saturday night.
Coming off of the big 3-0 win over Saint Louis last weekend at Weidner Field, the Switchbacks were looking to keep the momentum going against the Las Vegas Lights FC. These two teams are familiar with each other already as the Switchbacks won their first meeting of the season 1-0 back on May 11th. Tonight's game started with each team getting a couple opportunities but neither side could finish their chances. In the 24th minute, Carlos Alvarez of Las Vegas crossed the ball looking for a teammate but his cross went untouched into the far post for a goal midway through the first half.
The second half started quickly with Freddy Adu getting on the end of a long throw-in just two minutes after the restart to double the Las Vegas lead. Just over ten minutes later, Las Vegas went up 3-0 after Samuel Ochoa's header took a slight deflection to find its way to the back of the net. The Switchbacks would get one back in the 77th minute as Josh Suggs found the ball at his feet and enough time to slot the ball past the onrushing keeper. But in the first minute of stoppage time, Las Vegas would extend their lead back to 3 goals as Matt Thomas finished his opportunity.
The Switchbacks return home to face the Swope Park Rangers on June 9th at 6:00 PM. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a red or blue Saber courtesy of Penrose-St. Francis Health Services. The Switchbacks will also be wearing Chewbacca warm-up jerseys that will be available to buy with all proceeds going directly to the Penrose-St. Francis Cancer Research Foundation. Tickets start at just $12 and are available here. Fans 21+ can get $1 beer the first 30 minutes when gates open at 5:00 PM.
