The Colorado Springs Switchbacks came back to draw 1-1 against the Oklahoma City Energy FC on Saturday night.
Coming off of the 1-0 loss to Orange County at Weidner Field on Tuesday night, the Switchbacks were looking to get back on track against the Oklahoma City Energy FC. The Switchbacks gave up another early goal as Hugh Dixon took down a cross in the 18-yard box and smashed the ball through the legs of Switchbacks keeper, Moise Poauty in the 16th minute. The Switchbacks got more into the game for the next 15 minutes, creating an opportunity for Shane Malcolm that he put over the crossbar before the water break on a hot night in Oklahoma City. In the 43rd minute, the Switchbacks took a free kick quickly that caught the Energy off guard as Karsten Hanlin played a long pass in the air to Jordan Burt but his header was just wide of the goal and the Switchbacks would go into the half down 1-0.
The second half started with the Switchbacks being the aggressor as Shane Malcolm combined with Sam Hamilton just three minutes after halftime when Shane Malcolm chipped the Oklahoma City goalkeeper, Matt Van Oekel, to tie the game at one apiece. Just a few minutes later, Marty Maybin nearly scored a Goal of the Year contender but instead, it was Bryan Byars, who replaced the injured Van Oekel, that made an incredible save to deny the Switchbacks forward. Each team had one more opportunity to win the game but Moise Poauty came up big to make a double save and then Tobenna Uzo's headed effort missed just wide in stoppage time before the game ended 1-1.
The Switchbacks return home again on July 14th to face the Sacramento Republic FC where the first 500 fans in attendance will receive a premium bottle and bag courtesy of Heat Depot Home Solutions. Tickets start at just $12 and are available here. Fans 21+ can get $1 beer the first 30 minutes when gates open at 5:00 PM.
