April 24th, 2021 – On Friday evening, over 100 people gathered to witness the unveiling of the brand-new sculpture “The Epicenter” outside Weidner Field in downtown Colorado Springs.
Nearly 150 guests gathered to enjoy a dazzling reveal of the massive structure dominating the Northeast corner of the stadium. The guest list was packed with VIP members and included such individuals as Mayor Struthers, as well as business owners of Colorado Springs and Weidner Field partner representatives.
After the formal reveal of the sculpture, invitees were treated to a VIP experience within Weidner Field. They were able to explore the field, become “members” of the Switchbacks FC team, and enjoy three different levels of luxury club level facilities. Our executive chef, Amy Parrot, provided an incredible gourmet menu for the guests, giving them a sneak peek into the kinds of cuisine that will be offered in our club areas and concession stands. They finished the evening with a heartfelt video from Dean Weidner, founder of Weidner Apartment Homes, and an incredible fireworks display that included audio and visual elements.
The event was a great success, cementing Weidner Field as a must visit location in Downtown Colorado Springs. Here are just a few of the reviews received in the days following the event:
“Lots of people have dreams-few, if ever come to fruition. It is even more rare to have visionaries who also implement. And, even rarer still, those who do it with class. You all just epitomized a decade of vision of City for Champions.”
“What a night! It was everything it should have been!”
“What an incredible weekend and momentous occasion to celebrate!”
“The venue exceeded everyone’s expectations and the partners and their representatives proved to be a true example of the people that live in and love Colorado Springs. Dean Weidner and his organization and the talent within the Ragain family is inspiring.”
About the Sculpture:
The sculpture, at 35 feet tall and with a diameter of 65 feet, is made of highly polished stainless steel and required over 20,000 man hours to complete. Three different groups: Perkins & Will, Martin/Martin, and Springs Fabrication LLC. were responsible for the incredible engineering feat that is the Epicenter.
The successful fruition of The Epicenter is also thanks in large part to Dean Weidner, founder of Weidner Apartment Homes. He wanted the sculpture to be a gift to the citizens of Colorado Springs and its visitors alike.
The Epicenter sculpture features two large interlocking rings, which represent the strong relationship between Colorado Springs and the Olympic governing bodies that call COS home. The ramps leading up to the stadium feature a “switchbacks” aesthetic, that is both functional and also provides a stunning vista of the entirety of Weidner Field.
Weidner Field and The Epicenter sculpture are the latest project to come out of the City 4 Champions projects, and joins the U.S Olympic and Paralympic Museum, and the William J. Hybl Sports Medicine and Performance Center. Get your tickets today to visit the field and experience all it has to offer.
