Colorado Springs, CO (May 7, 2021) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC today announced a long-term lower leg injury sustained to defender Dillon Serna, with no timetable for a return immediately available.
“First and foremost we are working with Dillon and the doctors at Centura Health to ensure a complete recovery and to get him back on the field as quickly as possible," said Switchbacks General Manager, Brian Crookham. "This is not the first bit of adversity that Dillon has faced in his career and we are confident that he will be back and contributing to the group soon.” In additiion
In addition, Switchbacks FC and Bienvenue Kanakimana have agreed to mutually terminate the forward's contract. Kanakimana was originally signed in February of 2021. However, visa difficulties have prevented Kanakimana from participating in the USL Championship this season.
The Switchbacks are back on the road to face Sporting Kansas City II on May 14 before returning home for the Grand Home Opener at Weidner Field on May 21 vs New Mexico United. Click here to view the full Switchbacks schedule.
This will be the Switchbacks' first season in the new 8,000-seat state of the art stadium in Downtown Colorado Springs. Weidner Field is set to be the highest elevated professional stadium in the USL Championship and the United States at 6,035 ft.
