The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC scored three second-half goals to win 3-1 on the road to Loudoun United FC on Saturday night.
In a tight first half, the best opportunity was created by the pace of Michee Ngalina down the left channel, but his curled shot was saved and Deshane Beckford's rebound attempt was put over the crossbar.
The Switchbacks got on the board first when a short corner allowed Jose Torres to play a lofted cross into the penalty area where Michael Edwards volleyed home his second goal of the season in front of his friends and family in his home state of Virginia.
Yaya Toure entered the game in the 64th minute and doubled the Switchbacks' lead in the 65th minute after a blocked shot on Andre Lewis lead to a loose ball from six yards out that Toure hit inside of the left post to also score his second goal of the season.
Loudoun got a goal back when a deflected cross found the foot of Kimarni Smith and his shot from close distance found its way through a defenders legs and into the goal. Three minutes later, a shot from Jackson Hopkins was headed for the top right corner of the goal but Abraham Rodriguez was able to get a strong hand to the ball to tip it over the crossbar for the crucial save.
The Switchbacks added a third goal in stoppage time when Darren Yapi had a 1-v-1 opportunity but his shot was saved by Jermaine Fordah. Hadji Barry picked up the rebound in the middle of the penalty area and slotted a low shot between the goalkeeper and two defenders to earn his 14th goal of the season. Not only does that goal extend Barry's lead at the top of the Golden Boot race, it ties the Switchbacks record for goals in a single season.
