All Things Soccer: Champions League
It’s been a few months since the last Switchbacks match, and we’re starting to feel the withdrawal over here – we know you all are too! We’re ready to hit the ground running in 2022, and what a better way to do that than by embracing all elements of the soccer world – and this month that means Champions League!
The Champions League is an annual competition organized every year by the UEFA. The round robin style of the competition culminates in a double-legged knockout format and a single leg final. On Monday December 13th, the UEFA made the final draw of the last round of 16, the winners of which will determine the quarterfinals.
But we know this isn’t the reason you’re reading this article; you want to know what our players think about the Champions League! We polled some of the guys on who they thought would win and what their thoughts were about some of the matchups – just for you!
Hadji Barry: I’m picking Manchester City to win it all, and I think the PSG vs Real Madrid game will be the must watch game in the next round!
Cam Lindley was in total agreement with Barry, also picking Manchester City as the winners, while new goalkeeper Jeff Caldwell and Stephen Echevarria both picked Bayern to take it all.
As far as the most interesting match goes? Barry, Lindley and Caldwell all agree that Real Madrid vs. PSG is the one to watch. Although Stevie Echevarria is going with Manchester United and Athleti as the most interesting match, and Caldwell added that match as a “close and potentially chaotic second”.
Here at the Switchbacks, we are all soccer all the time, and we love getting to hear our players’ thoughts on the world’s greatest game. Who will you be rooting for this tournament season?
