Last Thursday, the American Outlaws and Switchbacks Entertainment partnered to host a watch party at Weidner Field of the US Men’s National Team’s match against Mexico.
The USMNT kicked off the final weekend of their qualifying matches with a scoreless draw as they faced off with Mexico in Mexico City. While the United States outshot Mexico landing four shots on target, two more than Mexico fired, both keepers remained perfect. The national team went on to defeat Panama in a 5-1 rout on Saturday in Orlando, which all but guaranteed their berth in the group stage of the World Cup. The national team confirmed their qualification on Tuesday night when they could have surrendered five goals to Costa Rica and still been confirmed for the tournament. They ultimately fell to Costa Rica by a full-time score of 2-0. This will be the first appearance for the United States in the men’s world cup since 2016, the team did not qualify for the last World Cup held in 2018 in Russia.
Dozens of fans and season ticket members came out to Weidner Field to enjoy the event. Food and drink was included in their ticket, and 6035 Hospitality, the in house catering team at Weidner Field provided some amazing dishes. Fans were able to watch the match on the jumbotron, while in the comfort of our Sky Club area.
The marquee tournament in soccer kicks off in the fall with the final qualifiers scheduled for June. Opening matches of the tournament will take place on November 21st, with the final match scheduled for December 18th. The 2022 tournament will be held in Qatar for the first time in history.
