The Switchbacks had a banner year this season, on and off the pitch. The team made a historic playoff for the first time in it’s franchises history, and the fans helped us to break attendance records like never before! But your favorite team in black and blue couldn’t do what they do without the support of the community of Colorado Springs, and something else the club focused hard on this year was making sure we gave back to the community just as much as they gave to us.
Throughout 2022, the Switchbacks, both team and staff, spent over 50 hours volunteering throughout the city, at schools, nonprofits, and local sports programs, and helped raise over 20,000 dollars for a variety of groups. In September the team had their Cancer Awareness Night, with specialty jerseys that were signed by players and auctioned off, with all the proceeds going to the Penrose Cancer Center. Jerseys were also available for purchase in the apparel shops, whose profits also benefitted the Penrose Cancer Center. The end of the auction and jersey sale resulted in a check for over $5,000 delivered to the group earlier this year. Another great organization we were able to team up with was the Mt. Carmel Veteran’s Service Center, who with the help of our good friends and partners at Phil Long, we were able to deliver a check of $1,000 to the nonprofit that provides services for veterans in the southern Colorado Springs area. Our ticket giveback program is an opportunity for nonprofits to team up with the Switchbacks for group outings and ticket purchases, with a portion of all ticket sales going back directly to the group. PRIDE soccer, the local youth organization here in the Springs, made a huge impact this year with their teams coming out in support of the Switchbacks, and our giveback program was able to provide them with a check for 15,000$ for the 2022 season!
The Switchbacks organization is grateful everyday to the city of Colorado Springs and the people who live here for the support and love we receive from them, and we hope in 2023 we can provide even more to the community that has fostered us these last eight years.
