On March 2nd local schools in the Colorado Springs area celebrated Read Across America Day, and Switchbacks FC players Speedy and Romario Williams jumped in on the fun, visiting schools to read to classes.
Midfielder Speedy Williams visited Early Connections Learning Center with the team mascot Ziggy, as his teammate, Forward Romario Williams, visited Manitou Springs Elementary. Part of the mission of Read Across America is to share stories of characters from all walks of life, which is why events like that of March 2nd encourage guest readers.
Read Across America is a program made by the National Education Association that encourages educators and parents to regularly read to their students and children in an effort to boost literacy amongst young Americans. Though the events on March 2nd were in celebration of Read Across America Day, the program continues year round, with events and book recommendations for adults to share with the children in their lives.
