Colorado Springs, CO (June 1, 2019) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC defeated Fresno FC 1-0 from Jordan Burt's first-half header in front of 3,517 fans at Weidner Field Saturday night.
The Switchbacks were looking to get back in the winning column on Saturday night to cap off a wild week at Weidner Field. The Switchbacks were creating chances throughout the first half with efforts from both Jordan Schweitzer and Saeed Robinson both getting turned away from Fresno goalkeeper, C.J. Cochran. The hosts would find their breakthrough when Jordan Burt rose up and headed home a corner kick from Ish Jome to give the Switchbacks a 1-0 lead at the half. The Switchbacks restricted any and all chances from Fresno in the second half for a total of zero shots on target from the visitors, to hang on for the 1-0 win at Weidner Field.
"I'm relieved, to be honest. I think this is the start of something good," said man of the match, Jordan Burt. "Everyone played well, and that's what it takes in this league to get results."
The Switchbacks' next game is June 8th when the Tacoma Defiance come to town on Star Wars Cancer Awareness night. The players will be wearing R2-D2 themed warmup jerseys that will be auctioned off all week leading up to the game with all proceeds benefiting the Penrose-St. Francis Health Foundation. Full 16oz beers will be available for $1 for the first 30 minutes after gates open at 5:00 PM. Tickets start at just $12 and are available HERE.
