Colorado Springs, CO (March 3, 2017) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC officially announced today the signings of two players from February tryouts and third player via free agency. The signings are pending league and USSF approval.
The Switchbacks held their open tryouts in early February. Over 60 players from all across the world traveled to Colorado Springs for their chance to play for the Switchbacks. Following tryouts, five players were invited to preseason training camp with the Switchbacks. After a good showing, Diego Gutierrez Chavez and Jack Jones were given contracts for the 2017 season.
"Diego and Jack were 2 players from our open tryouts that we invited to train with the first team," said Head Coach Steve Trittschuh of the new signings. "We thought they could help us this season so we look for them to contribute to the quality of the team."
"I'm very excited to be here," said Jones on joining the Switchbacks. "It's a tremendous opportunity to drive hard at something I love."
The Switchbacks have also signed former Gonzaga standout Conner Bevans to the 2017 roster. Bevans was a versatile player for the Zags, playing primarily as a forward, but also played in midfield and defender roles during his senior year where he tallied 12 goals in 17 appearances.
"Conner is a player I have been aware of for some time," said Head Coach Steve Trittschuh of Bevans. "He is versatile he could end up in various positions for us. He has a great work rate and a great attitude so he should fit in perfect with our team."
"I am very excited for this amazing opportunity.," said Chavez on signing with the Switchbacks. "It is truly a blessing to be able to work hard every day and help the team achieve all of its goals for this season."
"Joining a club with a culture of success is a huge opportunity for me," said Bevans on joining the Switchbacks. "I am eager to contribute everything I have to my teammates, the staff and the fans. I'm looking forward to a successful season as a Colorado Springs Switchback."
The Switchbacks will kick off their 2017 USL campaign at the Tulsa Roughnecks on March 25th before returning to Weidner Field for their home opener on April 1st against Oklahoma City Energy FC.
