The Colorado Springs Switchbacks are once again participating in the Open Cup for the 2024 season, so we wanted to take a moment and give you the inside scoop on what you can expect from the tournament this year!
The USL Championship and all its participating clubs will be joining the tournament in two different rounds: the third round will include USLC teams who did not make the 2023 playoff bracket, and the clubs with a 2023 playoff berth will join the tournament for the round of 32, including the Switchbacks.
Kicking off on March 19th, round one of the Open Cup included 32 division 3 teams and 32 amateur open division teams in a randomly drafted lineup. Round two included teams from USL League One, MLS Next Pro, and NISA. April 16th started the third round of the tournament, where the first USL Championship teams joined the lineups.
The Round of 32 will occur from May 7th-8th, with all 16 matches taking place over the course of those two days. The live draw, which took place on Thursday April 18th, paired up the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC with NYCFCII. That match is set to kickoff on May 8th at Belson Stadium in Queens NY.
