When the Switchbacks first started, they knew a mascot was a necessity. But how do you come up with a mascot that is relevant to the team that the city can get behind? The Switchbacks set out to let the community decide by going to the art teachers of local schools with the Mascot Madness competition. A $200 cash prize was offered to the art department of the student that had their drawing selected. The winner was selected at the Switchbacks first ever exhibition game on October 18th, 2014.
The winner was revealed to be Riley Sorency from Widefield High School in Widefield School District 3. Riley sketched a mountain goat because it was unique and fitting with switchbacks being in the mountains.
