COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Dec, 9th, 2023) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced that they have signed Defender Wahab Ackwei, previously from Rio Grande Valley FC. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Ackwei comes to the Switchbacks from recently playing with Rio Grande Valley FC. Throughout the 2023 season, he netted two goals, had 66 clearances, won 14 tackles, and held a passing accuracy of 80.8%.
The Ghana native started his professional career playing in the Ghana Premier League for Inter Allies FC from 2014-2017. The following year, Ackwei made seven appearances for New York Red Bulls II.
Ackwei, 27, played two seasons starting in 2019 with the Richmond Kickers recording 29 interceptions, 97 clearances, and 22 tackles. In 2021, Ackwei was signed to play for Loudon United FC for a season making nine appearances.
